He was born in Soviet Georgia in 1966 and emigrated to Israel as a young child, a background that greatly influenced the film's setting and themes. The movie was produced on a budget of 12.7 million NIS (New Israeli Shekels) and premiered in Israel on December 18, 2003. It later reached French audiences on August 31, 2005.
