However, OpenEmu cannot legally distribute copyrighted system files. For systems from the 32-bit era onward (like the original PlayStation or Sega Saturn), the hardware relied on a proprietary BIOS chip to initialize the system and manage peripherals. To emulate these consoles accurately (i.e., at "extra quality"), OpenEmu requires a copy of that original BIOS.
